Description
Embark on a memorable hiking adventure through the breathtaking Vindelfjäll Nature Reserve in Swedish Lapland. Your journey begins at the parking lot just north of Ammarnäs village, where you’ll lace up your walking boots and set out along an old trade route once used for exchanging goods with Norway, immersing yourself in the region's rich history.
As you venture deeper into the valley, the distant roar of the Gouletsbäcken waterfall beckons you forward. After a scenic 3-kilometer trek, the path leads into the underbrush and up towards the waterfall. The climb rewards you with stunning panoramic views of Ammarfjället’s majestic peaks, including Stuvbiebáktie, Suvlåjvvie, and the towering Vijjágáissie.
Above the waterfall, you’ll pause for a well-deserved break, soaking in the pristine surroundings and expansive vistas. Continuing onward, you’ll leave the tree line behind and enter the highlands, following faint footprints alongside the Gouletsbäcken river until it disappears into the wild vegetation, navigating through untouched terrain and crossing gentle streams.
After about an hour, you’ll reach the tranquil lake Dávtájávrrie, the perfect spot for a longer rest if weather permits. The final stretch follows a quad trail used by local reindeer herders, guiding you toward a signpost marking your descent. You’ll traverse wet meadows and, in spring, bubbling streams before returning to the mountain road leading back to the parking area.
This guided hike includes local expertise and ensures a safe, immersive experience in one of Sweden’s most enchanting landscapes. Prepare for moderate to challenging terrain and bring your own snacks and water, as meals are not included. Spots are limited, so check availability and secure your place now for an unforgettable journey through Swedish reindeer country!
