Embark on a meaningful trek retracing the route many Sarajevans took to freedom during the 1990s conflict. The journey begins with a challenging ascent through lush beech and spruce forests, passing remnants of a wartime field hospital and a solitary mountain mosque. Traverse the historic Igman Plateau, once the site of the 1984 Olympic Cross-Country Games, before reaching the Bjelasnica Olympic ski area. Unwind at your hotel (or similar) with access to a pool and spa, the perfect way to relax after a rewarding day. All meals are included today.

Set out from your hotel, ascending past ski slopes and through tranquil beech forests to reach the grassy plateau and the summit of Bjelasnica at the Observatory Peak. On clear days, the panoramic views stretch to the distant mountains bordering Montenegro. Descend along the old Olympic road, passing through verdant meadows, before arriving in the charming village of Umoljani. Here, you will enjoy a restful night and a delicious homemade meal in a traditional setting.

Today’s hike offers a choice between a moderate or more challenging route, both showcasing the breathtaking landscapes of the Bjelasnica hinterland. Pass the local cemetery and traverse the summer village of Gradina, with the option to visit a scenic viewpoint overlooking Studeni Potok and the valley below. Follow the trail along the dramatic Rakitnica Gorge, or opt for the ascent over Obalj Peak for sweeping vistas. Arrive in Lukomir, Bosnia’s highest village, where ancient stecci tombstones and traditional ways of life blend with modern comforts. Enjoy the hospitality of the villagers and marvel at the spectacular views of the surrounding peaks.

Begin your descent from Lukomir, passing the village cemetery before following a shepherd’s trail down to the depths of the Rakitnica Gorge. Cross the river via a suspension bridge, then tackle a steep ascent to the opposite side. The path leads through open meadows with the impressive Visocica Mountains as your constant backdrop, culminating in the peaceful village of Bobovica.

Set off from your mountain hut for a challenging hike through beech forests and alpine meadows, reaching the natural amphitheater beneath Vito Peak. Ascend to the summit for awe-inspiring 360-degree views and a memorable picnic. Continue along the ridge to Drstva Peak before descending through the forest to the village of Tusila. After a hearty lunch at the hut, you will be transferred back to Sarajevo for your final night.
